textclicked on drudge, and i swear i thought there was something wrong with my eyes. i honestly didn't think this could happen, considering the level of enmity between these two, but if this picture is everything it portends--and if clinton and obama don't pose for one like it very soon--then i'd say you're probably looking at the next president and vice president of the united states.

Romney is not the next vice president because McCain won't pick him.
The problem with Romney is that half the religious right does not trust his Mormon religion...the other half seems OK with it.
Never mind that he was a moderate before he became a conservative.
McCain is likely going to have to pick someone conservatives can get excited about. That was always the issue with Romney and why McCain is the nominee: the conservative establishment of the Republican party failed to coalesce around a single person. They fractured and McCain benefited.
So, it does not make strategic sense on any level to pick Romney. And, despite the picture, McCain is not a man who forgets easily.
Having said that, every day the Democratic race continues with attacks back and forth benefits him.

rob: i dunno about that; those distinctions which were important when picking the head of the ticket don't necessarily hold when it comes to a vp. and i don't think it behooves mccain to go for a hardcore conservative as his running-mate--hell, he already has the conservatives now (especially if his opponent is a black man--trust me, that'll get 'em out to vote); what he has to do is win over the vast pool of undecideds, and if you put mccain and romney together, they're gonna look like a much safer choice to a vast swath of middle america than barack obama. all i'm sayin.

McCain is going to pick Romney. If he does, I owe you a stripper/escort of your choice (I guess I should add under $500 because the whole Eliot Spitzer thing has raised my awareness of high end seediness that I can't afford).
i didn't say he was gonna pick romney--notice there's a big, qualifying "if" in that post. but if he does, i'll take mr. manhunt up there for $500, alex.
