and maybe turn our focus to slightly more pressing and tangible threats such as, oh i dunno, the impending utter and complete collapse of the financial and monetary systems of the western world, or the calculated, systematic and ongoing destruction of our civil liberties?

Not while we have thousands of climate scientists, climate journalists, and climate bureaucrats making their living out of it, - no we can't. There are billions of bucks in grants, investments, and livelihoods at stake. It ain't going quietly. (Although electioneering politics have noticeably caught on.)
