who'd have ever thought

.

i'd live to see a day in america when a republican presidential front-runner without a hint of scandal in either his professional or personal life would be excoriated for being smart, driven and successful, and his wife for choosing to stay at home and be an actual mother to their five bright, well-adjusted kids?

seriously, folks, would you really prefer some inept, mediocre slob with three ex-wives and two kids in rehab running the country, just so you can take comfort in knowing he fully identifies with the common man?

there's a lot you can say about mitt romney, much of it deservedly critical, but i've really had about enough of this particular line of bullshit.

There is a reason, guttermorality, why Republican professionals like Bill Krystal did everything in their power to persuade someone else (anyone else) to run for the nomination. Basically, a lot of the Republican establishment thinks Romney is a weak choice. The grass roots members do not think he is particularly conservative and don't trust him.

So, yes, he is "scandal free" but the level of enthusiasm for Romney within the Republican party is pretty low.

noblesavage: you deliberately missed my point.

yeah, there are all sorts of factors that make romney a weak candidate (and we'll be talking about those in future posts), but his history as an astute executive with a track record of successfully tackling and solving complex problems in the real world should not be one of them.

but, of course, it's not really that--it's the fact he got rich doing it that is the unforgivable sin in america today. he should be forced to give most of that money back to the proletariat, goddammit.
