maybe this time

.
i'd been told for so many years that once i finally made myself watch it, i'd love it, but...turns out, not so much.

i kept waiting for this overhyped and overrated film to convey to me that dark combination of decadence and foreboding that was the hallmark of the berlin underworld in the late 1930s, as its seedy denizens indulged in their vices even whilst sensing their world was about to come crashing to an end.

sadly, it never happened.

but as big a disappointment as the thing proved to be, there will always resonate within the soul of mkf that one unforgettable scene in which sally gets up there and sings her heart out to a tiny, indifferent crowd.

i hear ya, honey.

Yes, but an indifferent crowd on a single night is soon forgotten, your moments of embarrassment are posted on the internet forever.

It is a beautiful song. You must have been right at home watching "Torch Song Trilogy."

noblesavage: while i have experienced many moments of true embarrassment in my life, i've never written about any of them here.

and i've never seen "torch song trilogy"--with a few exceptions, i really don't care much for musicals.

Torch Song is so tragic but of its time. Just watch it. Perhaps I can tempt you with a cute Matthew Broderick?

todd: i'm picturing a cute matthew broderick chained up in your basement, subsisting on nothing but stale crullers and an iced tea IV, waiting to be trotted out any time his services are required to tempt grouchy old boyhounds into watching musicals.

that's totally what you meant, right?
