so, tanned and rested and fresh from rio, it seems barry's finally ready to let the american people [and that includes you, congress] in on why we suddenly find ourselves embroiled in yet a third middle-eastern bottomless clusterfuck.
as indifferent as i usually am to presidential speeches, i'll be on the edge of my seat for this one, secure in the knowledge that our glorious leader's gonna look me straight in the eye and answer all my burning questions, up to and including
- how did it feel to launch the first timid invasion in american military history?
- why was arab and UN approval of this action more important to you than that of congress?
- are you gonna kill the motherfucker or not?
- why did you tip your hand to the enemy?
- do you find it awkward to be fighting against al-qaeda in iraq and afghanistan, and with them in this new war?
- are you gonna launch wars to protect the saudi, yemeni, syrian, iranian and [insert godforsaken middle-eastern hellhole of your choice here] rebels, too? and if not, why not?
- what if the new boss turns out to be worse than the old boss?
update: did any of you buy that bullshit?

I do agree that this new entanglement has not been well explained or justified.
I further agree that it is unclear what principled distinction there is to support Libyan "rebels" versus all of the other uprisings happening in the Middle East now -- or most probably sooner or later.
But I'm also not sure that air strikes is the same thing as launching a war. What level of commitment will the U.S. and other countries make here?
noblesavage: if you really think we can walk away before qaddafi's either dead or out, you're as delusional as he is.
