It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare.
Harold Lewis, Emeritus Professor of Physics,
University of California, Santa Barbara*,in his letter relinqishing his 67-year membership
in the American Physical Society
read the letter, in which a principled scientist lays out the path whereby, in his lifetime, science has abandoned the objective search for truth and become the paid whore of the highest bidder--in this case, the global warming/carbon-offset cabal. it's devastating in its heartfelt eloquence.
and it's not just climate science--far from it. the food industry's paid scientists are telling us that high-fructose corn syrup doesn't make us fat, and that genetically-modified foods and antibiotic-drenched livestock are perfectly safe, even though europe has banned them.
the pharmaceutical industry's paid scientists assure us that loading up kids with ritalin and antidepressants is perfectly safe, even as levels of bipolar disorder among young people who take such drugs is skyrocketing.
people laughed back when the tobacco industry trotted out scientists who tried to tell us smoking was perfectly safe--why is it that we as a society no longer regard such paid whores with the healthy skepticism they deserve?

It irks me to no end that high fructose corn syrup is being renamed as 'corn sugar'. 'Cause that makes it okay for you and stuff.
There are three simple premises:
1. The earth has warmed significantly in the past 50-100 years.
2. The cause of this warming is man made.
3. There will be serious if not severe negative consequences from a warmer world.
Which of these three premises does guttermorality disagree with?
The global warming denier crowd seems most out to focus upon number 1 by saying that there will always be hot days in August and cold days in December.
I look to climate scientists (which, by the way, Professor Lewis is not, he is a physicist). And virtually every climate scientist affirms the three principles above.
But if you are Senator Tom Colburn, you hear testimony on climate change from Tom Clancy, not serious climate scientists.
The Republican party's position is not supported by serious science, it is supported by corporate profits.
If Professor Lewis was right and scientists -- all scientists -- were in the back pocket of government or business, climate change would be denied. Remember, the issue was that some legitimate researchers were willing to say the health risks of smoking were disputed.
Here, industries like oil and coal gain nothing from having scientists say climate change is happening, it is man made, and it is a very serious problem.
Guttermorality has its view. It is just not supported by any serious science.
