the homosexuals

been tryin to figure out where that last post came from, and then i remembered my recent exposure to the following:

watching it, it all came back--my surreptitous neo-adolescent visitations to the library tryin to figure out what the fuck was wrong with me, reading the bullshit in scholarly tomes and prematurely consigning myself to hell.

because back then, all you could find on the subject was shit like this--and, of course, this.

can't you see?  i was doomed.

Watching Mike Wallace spew the most ugly and sordid story of the homosexual in America is just plain funny now.

But it was pretty damn scary then....that's for sure. I understand exactly what you mean.

The best thing I can say is that the inside world of the homosexual was actually a lot different from the media's portrayal. That is what made all of these reports so awful: they were so infected with bias and judgment.

noblesavage: the thing that made this kinda shit so deadly (especially for me) was that there was just enough ugly, inconvenient truth mixed in there to lend undue credibility to the rest.

You know, if you saw some of the reports about pot smoking or LSD and Timothy Leary around this same time (1967), you'd have seen the same alarmist and biased reporting.

Keep in mind this also the same year as the Summer of Love and a lot of things were happening that upended the whole straight laced sixties and the world as we knew it.

Of course, that's pretty hard to appreciate when you're 10 years old.
