i could write volumes about sarah palin

.
or i could simply post my most recent comment from over at bill in exile and be done with it:

problem is, in terms of her walk-the-talk integrity, this hillbilly bitch kicks the shit outta barack obama in several ways that i have no doubt will prove significant to the elecorate. for instance, in explaining the entirety of her life, she doesn't have to dodge, disavow or disinherit any element of her past--there's an arrow-straight line between who she was when she was a babe sucklng at her mother's breast and who she is now--she hasn't had to vote "present," or kick her pastor, political mentors, numerous former associates, political benefactor(s) or grandma to the curb in order to carefully and calculatedly justify her palatability to her chosen electorate.

for better or worse, that pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

Well...now that it has come out that Palin's oldest daughter is 5 months pregnant (gets kinda hard to hide from here), what do you say to that?

Oh, and a post from you at 9 a.m. means one of two things, it was an early night or a late night. Which is it?

noblesavage: i'd say (a) it's not gonna matter that much if they get married; and (b) the dems had better come up with better shit than that.

as for the second part of your comment, i was up and down all night, and this post got done in one of the "up" periods.

Well, you need to pick one and stick with it -- stay up or go to bed. I have found it hard to try to do both.

Your laudatory view of Palin is shared by Camille Paglia...so maybe there is something to it.

As for your point -- that Palin is authentic in ways Obama could only dream of -- I'm not buying it.

She has never been in the glare of the full 24/7 news spotlight. Some folks find their meddle in this environment, while others can't take the heat and wilt.

Obama has done some things always with an eye to the spotlight -- because of his ambition.

[You may recall a certain person from your not too distant past who was just such a creature and now has channeled that ambition into radio, but I digress.]

But Obama has also done things because he has been in the media spotlight under a magnifying glass for the last 2 years.

Palin was an unknown quantity as of Friday, we'll see how she does these next few weeks.

Prediction: there is at least one major gaffe in the next three weeks.

The problem I have with Sarah Palin is that some of her beliefs (that she is a creationist for example) are just plain nutty.

Unfortunately, she is in the Republican mainstream. In one of the early debates, McCain was one of the few candidates who did not raise his hand when it was asked who believed in creationism.

Will a lot of Americans recognize Palin as someone who we want a heart beat away from a 72 year old president with repeated skin cancer? The jury is still out.

noblesavage: i've never been one to pay much attention to political speeches, but i have a feeling i'll be watching hers fairly closely (along with everybody else).

and you're right--the scrutiny is gonna be relentless. my money is on the husband slipping up first.
